Girl Gang DIY Sampler - digitizing in Embrilliance and quilting on the Luminaire - Part 2 from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Happy Groundhog Day! I think I'd like to watch the movie tonight. Moving along...

I was so pumped when I was able to quilt that little bee block--what I didn't tell you was all the trouble I experienced that afternoon getting the block scanned and the machine just generally not wanting to cooperate. I went to the wonderful Facebook Group Just Stitchin' with the Aveneer and Luminaire and posted my dilemma. Within 5 minutes, three helpful group members each made a different suggestion--and within 15 minutes, I was back in the game.

Along with that came headaches—I ...

On Deck - Girl Gang DIY Sampler - quilting the quilt on the Luminaire from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

The Girl Gang quilt is finally on deck. This is the project I was looking for last week, and finally found it Monday morning. Yay!

While working on the recent baby quilt, I had a little epiphany about quilting; specifically, how to get it done with less angst, aggravation and still be happy about it. Y’all know I have been digitizing some edge-to-edge designs but I also want to make some block-specific background designs—think Kimberbell’s background quilting and Designs by Juju’s backdrops. Combine that idea with the Brother Luminaire’s ability to scan a design from ...

On Deck - the baby quilt for the new great-grandson from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

All babies are special, and the ones in my life get a quilt.

I know I have said this on multiple occasions, but my granddaughter Cheyanne told me via FaceTime that she was going to have another baby ON MY BIRTHDAY. I was just giddy! But a sequence of events has pushed the arrival to an earlier date. I finished piecing the baby quilt top in November, but had put off the quilting of it until we got a little closer to the April due date. But we also know that babies come when they tell you they are coming ...

Finally Finished 2026 - first quilt finish of the year from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

It's a digitizing class exercise!

Oh, I was a happy girl last Sunday. I watched a couple of Lisa Shaw's videos about creating motif fills and decided I really didn't need to do it on this particular quilt. I wanted to, and I want to on other quilts, but this one will reside on the top of our dining table and it doesn't need the foo-foo. I managed to finish digitizing the center design as well as the edge-to-edge design.

For background, four years ago I signed up for Sarah Vedeler’s Master Digitizing course. I ...

Onward! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Ever had a project you had to make that you couldn’t get going on because you were bored with it before you started it?

And it’s not an awful thing—this is the secret project I mentioned starting a few blog posts back. A few weeks ago, it was in limbo.

So I mentioned in that post that I was thinking of proceeding on a different path and only for the purpose of making it easier. I should say there is nothing hard about this project, it’s more about being bored with it right out of the ...

Finally Finished—IMT Cabana Huts from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Only 20 years in a Bin!

Last week was a euphoria-filled week. I quilted every day—and tried a couple of new-to-me techniques. But first, look at this label:

Obs, it was not finished in 2018, but that was the original intent. That’s also the year I went back to college and my quilting took a hiatus. After 3 semesters, my health let me know that maybe I didn’t need to further my primary career and by that time, and my workload had increased due to some staffing issues. Now that I’ve retired I would like to ...

All the stuff from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

My words for this year are “catalog” and “organization”—Nothing romantic about that, is there?

Combined with the annual "I need to hibernate" feeling, January comes with mixed blessings.

People who know me are aware of my ability to apply logic, reasoning and sequencing when processing a way to do or complete a task, assignment or project. It was probably one of my top skill sets in my career. That sort of goes out the window when I’m quilting…when I say “Quilting is my crack,” it’s the truth. I go into that euphoric state, even if it ...

Ok; what's next? from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

I am hopeful that 2025 is a year of discovery, fun, family and friend gatherings...but mostly, quilting!

Hey, it is what it is! I spent the bulk of my first month of retirement just relaxing, and that was good for me. Very little happened in the way of quilting other than tearing off the foundation paper from the Tattoo Quilt and adding sashing to the blocks. In the crafting area, I played with my ScanNCut and cut out names from vinyl for each of our granddogs and grandcats (and our own Jolene and Jedi) and adhered them to bandanas ...

It’s been a while. Let’s catch up. from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

…but let me catch my breath.

So…a lot has been happening. Others may not think so much, but this old gal just retired last week after working full time for the last 49 years and I am exhausted.

Tattoo Quilt: All blocks and center panel are pieced, and I’m almost done ripping off the paper! And yes, it is the ONLY project I have worked on this year.

Studio: I had been researching electronic or digital cutters. After going down the YouTube rabbit hole, I borrowed Cindy’s ScanNCut. End result was going to the Brother dealer to ...
